Bermondsey Wharf Loft

Bermondsey Wharf was built in 1898 to store hides for the leather trade that once ran the length of Bermondsey Street, and was converted into twenty-eight loft apartments in 2004. This unit sits on the third floor with two walls of the original loading doors retained as full-height glazing.

The main space runs 34 feet from the entrance to the windows, with the kitchen set into a freestanding steel-framed unit rather than fitted along a wall, keeping the room’s proportions intact. Original brick is left exposed on the two external walls; the internal partitions are new stud work finished in white.

Two bedrooms sit off a short internal corridor, both with reasonable proportions rather than the box-rooms common in this kind of conversion. Bermondsey Street’s restaurants and the Saturday Maltby Street Market are a six-minute walk; Bermondsey Jubilee line station is closer still.
